The cost of a local Chicago move varies.
A variety of variables will factor into the final price you’ll pay for a local move in the Chicago area, including the specific location of your current and new home, the type of items you need moved, the total weight of your belongings, and the time involved in the relocation. Suffice to say, the fewer belongings you have and the shorter the distance between the two locations, the more affordable your move will be. Moving a few items from Naperville to Plainfield will cost less than moving a truck full of possessions from West Loop to Schaumburg.

The duration of a local Chicago move varies.
Every move is unique and like the cost, the time your move takes will vary. The distance between the locations, the number of crew members you need, and the amount of items you need moved will all influence the time frame of a move.

Most of the information we will need for your free quote is straightforward.
We will need to know:
- The origin and destination addresses.
- Is parking available for the moving truck at both locations?
- Will our team members have to climb stairs or use elevators?
- How much furniture and how many boxes do you need moved?
- Do you need packing and unpacking services?
- Do you have specialty items, such as pianos, grandfather clocks, safes, or complex exercise equipment?
- Do you have any fragile items that require extra care, such as antiques or things made of glass or marble?
- What is your desired relocation date?
There are a few key criteria that distinguish local from long-distance moves.
We subscribe to the definitions used by the Illinois Movers’ and Warehousemen’s Association and the Illinois Commerce Commission, which assert that “local moves” meet the following criteria:
- The origin and destination addresses are within 35 air miles of each other.
- The move must begin and end within the collar counties (counties with a population of 1 million or more residents). Currently, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties are considered collar counties.
Local moves are pierced on an hourly basis.
The total costs involved will be based on the time it takes to complete your move.
Just note that moves involving addresses that are not within 35 air miles of each other and do not begin and end within the seven collar counties do not qualify as local moves. Instead, the price for these moves will be calculated based on the total weight of the load and the miles traveled.
